Michael W. Fanning, Ph.D.

Dr. Mike Fanning, a native and lifelong South Carolinian, holds degrees from Wofford College, Benedict College, and the University of South Carolina – where he holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy.

Mike is a former teacher. He has taught high school students (Social Studies) at Estill High School (Hampton School District #2) and Columbia High School (Richland School District #1).

For the past 18 years, Mike has served as the executive director of the Olde English Consortium (OEC), an educational collaborative that seeks to promote excellence thru collaboration. Located in Chester, the OEC is a non-profit business dedicated to promoting efficiency and cooperation among the nine school districts and two universities (Winthrop & USCL) in this north central region of South Carolina. The OEC serves the following school districts: Chester, Fairfield, York, Rock Hill, Lancaster, Cherokee, Chesterfield, Clover, & Fort Mill. A key goal of the OEC is to help smaller school districts achieve the same efficiency and effectiveness of larger school districts... allowing all children to receive the same top quality education - no matter where the live.

Mike lives on a small farm in Mitford - just outside of Great Falls, with his wife, Stephanie. Their son, Markell, is a 2013 Great Falls graduate who just completed his junior year at Coastal Carolina University.

Mike is active in the community. Mike works closely with school and community groups throughout the region. He sits on the Board of Directors of the 100 Men Group; is an active member in the Chester and York Chambers of Commerce; an officer in the Fairfield NAACP; and served as Chairman of Fairfield United. Mike is a Richard W. Riley Institute Fellow, a former & current member of the South Carolina Education Association Children's Foundation Board of Directors; and is active in numerous education associations throughout the state. He is a former Adult Sunday School teacher at Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Ridgeway, and School Improvement Council member at Great Falls Middle, Chester Middle, and Fairfield Middle Schools.
