This 360-acre park was set up in 1952 to honor our nation's seventh president - Andrew Jackson. Elizabeth Jackson gave birth to her third son, Andrew Jackson, on March 15, 1767. Her husband died shortly before her son's birth. The widow Jackson raised her family in the home of her sister, Jane, and brother-in-law, James Crawford. The park encompasses the property that once belonged to James Crawford.

The only park in our state’s system dedicated to a U.S. president, Andrew Jackson State Park features a museum that details the boyhood of the nation’s seventh president, who grew up here in what then was known as the Waxhaws of the South Carolina backcountry.

The museum contains four exhibit rooms that reveal colonial life in South Carolina's backcountry: a dining room, bedroom, textile room, and early implements. A beautiful equestrian statue depicting a young Andrew Jackson (sculpted by Anna Hyatt Huntington of Brookgreen Gardens) is a highlight for visitors.
